More than 1,000 schoolchildren from Torrevieja took part in a large-scale environmental initiative, planting approximately 650 trees near La Mata lagoon. The mixed water company AGAMED prepared the land in advance, while Leroy Merlin supplied essential tools for the event.

Torrevieja celebrated Tree Day with a significant planting effort along the shores of La Mata lagoon. The initiative, which continued throughout the week in the Lo Albentosa area, involved students from 15 educational institutions, including ALPE.

Nearly 1,000 fourth-grade students participated after attending educational sessions on ecological regeneration and best planting practices. Park educators led these awareness sessions and provided technical guidance throughout the planting process.

The students successfully planted 650 trees and shrubs across three designated plots within the Natural Park, selecting only native species such as kermes oak, mastic, tamarisk, lavender, juniper, blackthorn, fan palm, santolina, Aleppo pine, buckthorn, rosemary, and carob.

AGAMED played a key role in land preparation, ensuring proper irrigation and providing protective materials for the plants. Leroy Merlin contributed by equipping students with shovels, buckets, and gloves to facilitate the work.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón highlighted the importance of engaging young people in environmental conservation. He emphasized the educational value of these initiatives, which foster ecological awareness and a sense of responsibility for green spaces. The mayor also confirmed that similar efforts will continue in collaboration with local schools in the coming years.

250 Trees Planted in Orihuela’s Coastal and Mountain Areas

The Orihuela Department of Environment organized a two-day Tree Day event, involving around 200 schoolchildren in activities promoting environmental stewardship and the protection of natural spaces.

A total of 250 trees of various species were planted across both the coastal and mountainous areas of Orihuela. This year, participating schools included CEIP Los Dolses, where students contributed to a green space in Orihuela Costa, and CEIP Josefina Manresa, where trees were planted near the tunnel in the Orihuela mountains.

Councilor Noelia Grao stressed the importance of preserving natural spaces and thanked the Education, Emergency, and Civil Protection departments for their collaboration. She also acknowledged Hidraqua for supplying the necessary water for the tree-planting efforts.
