The Civil Guard has arrested two Spanish nationals—a 26-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman—in connection with drug trafficking on the AP-7 motorway in Alicante. The operation resulted in the seizure of 18.6 kilograms of marijuana.
On January 20, officers from the Torrevieja Citizen Security Unit (USECIC) stopped a suspicious vehicle during a checkpoint. The driver displayed evasive behaviour and, when instructed to pull over for inspection, attempted to flee with reckless manoeuvres.
Once immobilized, officers discovered two large black bags inside the car emitting a strong marijuana odour. The bags contained numerous smaller packets of the drug, totalling 18.6 kilograms.
During the intervention, a visibly nervous woman approached, inquiring about the driver. She later admitted to driving a second vehicle as logistical support, commonly known as a “shuttle vehicle,” used to check for police presence and assist in the drug delivery.
Both individuals were arrested and have been placed at the disposal of Orihuela’s Court of Instruction No. 3, along with the confiscated drugs, vehicles, and mobile phones used in the operation.
