This Friday, the entire Mediterranean region will be under the influence of a DANA (isolated depression at high levels of the atmosphere) and the approach of storm Gabri.

Snowfall arrived on Thursday in the Valencian Community, bringing unusual scenes to the provinces of Valencia and Alicante. In the interior of Alicante, several vehicles were trapped overnight due to heavy snow accumulation, particularly in the towns of Ibi, Onil, and Banyeres. Fortunately, fire services were able to rescue the drivers promptly.

In places like Requena (Valencia), snowflakes also fell, although they did not accumulate as they did in Alicante or the Enguera mountain range in Valencia. On Friday, snow is expected to move inland to Castellón, where accumulations of 5 to 10 centimeters are predicted.

In addition to the snowfall, widespread precipitation is anticipated, with locally persistent rain in the southern part of Valencia and northern Alicante. Some of these showers could be heavy and occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, with small hail also possible along the coastline.

The snowline will be situated around 900 to 1,100 meters in the interior of the region, occasionally dropping locally to between 600 and 800 meters.

Meanwhile, minimum temperatures will rise, with notable increases in the southern half of the region, while maximum temperatures will remain stable. Specifically, Alicante is expected to see a minimum of 9°C and a maximum of 16°C, Castellón will experience a minimum of 7°C and a maximum of 14°C, and Valencia will have a minimum of 8°C and a maximum of 14°C.

On Friday, the entire Mediterranean region will be influenced by the DANA, which is situated in the southeast of the Iberian Peninsula, along with the approach of storm Gabri. As a result, cloudy or overcast skies are expected, accompanied by showers and thunderstorms in the Balearic Islands, the eastern coastline of the peninsula, the Strait of Gibraltar, and Melilla. There is also a possibility that these conditions may extend to the Alboran Sea and the interior of the eastern third of Spain.

For tomorrow, the Spanish Meteorological Agency (Aemet) forecasts light snow in the mountains of the extreme eastern peninsula and Mallorca. The snowline will range from 900 to 1,200 meters, with the potential to drop locally to between 700 and 800 meters. In some areas, snowfall may be moderate.

As the DANA and Gabri’s impact on the region intensifies, conditions will worsen throughout Friday, with snow and rain spreading across more areas of the Mediterranean coast. Although the region will experience temporary breaks in the weather, locals are advised to remain cautious, especially in higher-altitude areas and along the coastal zones where storms and hail are possible.
