Overwhelming number of Christmas activities planned for Orihuela City

The coast yet again plays second fiddle to the city as Orihuela Town Hall has unveiled a comprehensive Christmas programme filled with activities for all ages. Organized by various departments, including Festivities, Tourism, Culture, Commerce, Youth, Social Welfare, Sports, and Rural Development, the events promise a festive season full of joy and engagement.

The full programme of over 25 events, 19 in the city and 6 on the coast, can be accessed via www.orihuela.es/navidad2024, Town Hall social media, QR codes on posters, and distributed leaflets.

‘Orihuela, the Star that Unites Us’

This year’s campaign, themed ‘Orihuela, the star that unites us’, draws inspiration from the star motifs adorning Orihuela Cathedral, symbolising unity among residents during the festive season.

Programme Highlights

Social Welfare: A Solidarity Market from December 13-15 at Glorieta Gabriel Miró with various local associations.

Festivities: Kicking off with the lighting ceremony and reading of the Christmas Carol on December 5, followed by the Father Christmas Village and parades in Orihuela Costa on December 20 and the city centre on December 23.

Municipal Nativity Scene: Open at Plaza Teniente Linares and Town Hall Offices in Orihuela Costa.

Three Wise Men’s Arrival: January 5, at Orihuela Town Hall, followed by children’s reception and afternoon parades.

Commerce and Festivities: A Christmas Market at Plaza de la Centuria Romana from December 14-24 and a ‘Magic Walk’ on December 21. The Children’s New Year’s Eve celebration at Los Andenes on December 31.

Commerce: A circus show ‘Once Upon a Time’ on December 27 at Bernardo Ruiz Park.

Tourism: Various routes, including the ‘Nativity Scenes Route by tourist train’ and the ‘MUDIC route and Christmas baking workshop’, and the Magic Dreams Party on December 31 in Orihuela Costa.

Youth: A symphonic concert by Varry Brava on December 13, and activities like magic shows, video games, gymkhana’s, and music.

Culture: Concerts by ACAMDO on December 27 and DACAPO on December 21 and 25.

Sports: JUVE events on January 2-4 in Orihuela and surrounding districts.

Rural Development: Music-focused activities in various districts.

Orihuela Cultural: Events at Teatro Circo Atanasio Die, including the New Year’s Concert on January 1, ‘Rock en familia’ on December 28, and the ‘Black Light Gospel Christmas Concert’ on December 25, with tickets available at the theatre box office.
