Just one day after the alleged fight between a 71-year-old resident of Dolores and the mayor of the municipality, Joaquín Hernández, 53, the mayor has appeared at a press conference to defend his version. The altercation occurred last Friday, with both parties accusing each other of assault.
Hernández has stated “categorically” that he did not inflict “any kind of aggression on the resident of the municipality.” “I did not cause him any injury, ” continued the provincial deputy and general secretary of the PSOE in Vega Baja. He said that the wounds displayed by José María Argilés, on his arms “are due to a skin problem and that he bleeds easily with the slightest touch,” according to the police report.
As expected, José Manuel Guerrero, spokesman for the PP in Dolores, has strongly condemned “the altercation involving the socialist mayor and the 71-year-old citizen, which he says is unbecoming of the figure who should represent all the people of Dolores.”
Guerrero has also asked for the mayors immediate resignation from all public positions, both as mayor and as provincial deputy of the PSOE, and demanded that the appropriate disciplinary measures be carried out.
He said that prior to the press conference, an information committee was held in advance of next week’s plenary session, in which he asked the mayor for explanations to which, “Hernández laughed arrogantly stating that he was not going to give any explanation.”
