After several months of insecurity, the work to improve and refurbish the pedestrian walkway that crosses the Acequión canal in Torrevieja is almost complete. The work began on August 10, with a municipal investment of 31,001 euros.
It was in March when the Torrevieja City Council contacted the Provincial Coastal Service, an agency dependent on the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge (MITECO), requesting authorisation to carry out the urgent repair of the pedestrian, being an structure located within the Maritime Terrestrial Public Domain.
Municipal sources report that the first request was not authorized, so the municipal technical services had to submit a new technical report. This was done on three occasions before permission was granted so that these works could be carried out to ensure the safety of this pedestrian bridge.
Once the installation of the new slabs for the pedestrian walkway is completed, the final railings will be installed on both sides of the bridge deck.
