The PSOE has joined with the Wesenauer family fight in the fight to save their home, and stop the construction of newbuild properties in what was the Finca Langostina garden.
Two reports from the University of Alicante and the former municipal archaeologist both support that the house, one of the last exponents of ancient dry coastal agriculture, enjoys protection.
The PSOE says that the orihuela Council should stop the work until such time as the European Court of Human Rights has given its ruling.
The family has appealed to the ECHR that it be allowed to recover the land on which the building work is planned, because they consider that it was taken from them by virtue of a regional urban planning regulation that was later overturned by Europe: the LRAU.
The Council, although it has committed to promoting the protection of the property, has refused to stop the works for fear of having to face a compensation claim from the builder.
