CaixaBank, with the collaboration of Obra Social “la Caixa”, launched a fundraising campaign last week (solidarity crowdfunding) with the aim of encouraging individuals and companies to join their initiative to raise the 2,500 euros needed to complete the construction project of an adapted park for disabled students at the Alpe Special Education Centre in Torrevieja .

This action of solidarity crowdfunding was part of the strong social commitment of CaixaBank that, “through its network of banking offices (the largest in Spain with about 5,000), helps to support the most urgent local social needs, many of small magnitude but which, as a whole, can have a great impact.

Obra Social “la Caixa” has already made a donation of 7,000 euros to the project. It was hoping to raise the balance which will enable the park to be completed within the next 6 weeks.

Having read about the CaixaBank appeal online at The Leader website (www.theleader.info) Michelle Masson, President of HELP Vega Baja, rang the newspaper on Friday morning saying that  the San Miguel based charity would be delighted to meet the balance required of 2500 euro. Mechelle said “Our association has a long relationship with the Alpe Special Education Centre in Torrevieja and we appreciate just how important the adapted park will be.”

A spokesman for CaixaBank said that he was delighted with Help’s gesture but anyone wishing to make a donation could still do so at any of the bank’s ATMs, through the Línea Abierta or through the portal www.caixabank.es, and that any additional funding would be used to make further improvements.
