The Councillor for Social Welfare of Torrevieja City Council, Óscar Urtasun, has presented the 2024 Technical and Economic Report on Social Services, which includes the Reception and Care Service for situations of social need, the Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy, the Social Inclusion Service, as well as Community Action and Dependency Services.
In the Reception and Care Service for situations of social need, the councillor highlighted a municipal investment of €456,000 in economic aid for basic needs, housing use, extraordinary assistance, and utility support. In 2024, a total of 766 aid applications were submitted under this service.
Out of these, 106 were denied for not meeting legal requirements, and 105 were not processed due to withdrawal. Additionally, over 300 families and/or individuals benefited from food package assistance, with a total investment of €227,500.
In relation to the Service for the Promotion of Personal Autonomy, the Councillor highlighted the total investment in the Home Help Service, which reached €571,000, providing 31,680 hours of service to 110 people. Moreover, €93,000 was invested in the Menjar a casa (Meals at Home) program, delivering 11,689 meals throughout 2024 to 63 users.
From the Social Inclusion Service, which includes the Summer School program, 190 children benefited last year, with an investment of €75,000 in leisure and recreational activities and meal services.
Cllr Urtasun stated that under the Dependency Service, 683 dependency applications were processed with the regional government (Conselleria), and currently, 879 active case files are managed in the system under the Dependency Management Unit. In the Community Action Service, a total of €3,500 was invested in 2024 in LGTBI equality programs.
