Orihuela has kicked off its participation in the International Tourism Fair (FITUR), solidifying its position as a cultural, historical, and sports tourism leader.

Throughout the event, the city is showcasing the richness of its heritage and its diverse tourism offerings. Notable highlights include the unveiling of the first stage of the Volta Ciclista a la Comunitat Valenciana, the launch of an exclusive cultural voucher, and the presentation of the Holy Week poster and Lent Gastronomic Days.

As part of its presence at FITUR, Orihuela also announced its upcoming inclusion in the Renfe Spain Rail Pass program. This pass, designed for international tourists, simplifies rail travel across Spain. Visitors who present the pass at the Tourism Office will enjoy reduced admission fees of just €3 (instead of €8) to the Museum of Sacred Art, the Santo Domingo Convent, and the Orihuela Cathedral.

Sports are also taking centre stage, with Orihuela set to host the opening stage of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana on February 5. After a seven-year hiatus, this 34 km team time trial will travel between Orihuela and Orihuela Costa. The event beautifully blends the municipality’s natural and cultural treasures, from its farmland to its beaches, while highlighting its historical heritage.

During the presentation, the Councilor for Sports, Víctor Sigüenza, accompanied by the Councilor for Coast and Tourism, Manuel Mestre, and the Councilor for Rural Development, Víctor Valverde, emphasized that this stage pays tribute to legendary Orihuela-born cyclist Bernardo Ruiz, whose centennial is celebrated this year. “This event is a window into the soul of Orihuela, merging tradition, innovation, and a passion for sports,” Sigüenza remarked.

Additionally, on Saturday at 1:00 PM, Orihuela will present the Dances of Corpus Christi at the central plaza of the Comunitat Valenciana stand. This 30-minute performance will feature the iconic Gypsy Dance, a ribbon choreography revived in 2011 that brings to life the city’s Baroque legacy.
