Under the slogan “Torrevieja is Life,” the city is set to unveil its revamped tourism offerings at the International Tourism Fair (FITUR) in Madrid.
This year’s campaign promotes not only its iconic sun-and-sand appeal but also highlights its rich natural, cultural, sports, gastronomic, and leisure attractions. One of the standout features is the ‘Torrevieja Weekend’, a high-profile event scheduled for June.
Details will be officially announced this Thursday at FITUR, with the presence of its organizer, Eduardo Navarrete—a renowned Spanish fashion designer who rose to fame as a finalist in Maestros de la Costura and later appeared on MasterChef. Mayor Eduardo Dolón, speaking in Madrid on Tuesday, emphasized the event’s wide appeal, describing it as a celebration of fashion, entertainment, and gastronomy.
Highlights include fashion shows featuring various designers, street parades, and live performances, all envisioned by Navarrete as inclusive public festivities that attract thousands of locals and visitors to Torrevieja’s city center.
A CITY READY TO WELCOME THE WORLD
Mayor Dolón highlighted Torrevieja’s excellent connectivity, with three AVE high-speed train stations nearby and an international airport within close proximity.
The city boasts 14 kilometers of Blue Flag beaches, an impressive 300 days of sunshine annually, 50% protected natural areas, eco-trails, and abundant opportunities for sports and nautical tourism. “Torrevieja is a multicultural city,” the mayor added, noting its community of over 100 nationalities, including nearly 10,000 Ukrainians and 6,000 Russians, living in harmony.
Its mild climate also makes it a year-round destination, eliminating the typical seasonality of beach tourism.
ICONIC ATTRACTIONS AND AMBITIOUS GOALS
The mayor highlighted several key attractions:
-
- The International Contest of Habaneras and Polyphony, now in its 71st year, celebrated as the world’s premier competition in its category and a musical legacy of the Caribbean.
- Torrevieja’s salt lagoons and natural park, featuring the famed pink lagoon, which draws thousands of visitors annually.
- A robust nautical tourism scene with over 2,000 mooring points across its three marinas.
Looking ahead, Dolón outlined ambitious projects to solidify Torrevieja as a top-tier destination. Key initiatives include:
- Revitalizing the port area into the city’s central hub, featuring a major leisure complex.
- Developing a university campus and launching a gastro-market at “La Plasa.”
- Expanding the Ciudad Deportiva (Sports City), a 300,000-square-meter complex that increasingly attracts sports teams from northern Spain and Europe for winter training camps.
With its combination of cultural heritage, cutting-edge infrastructure, and year-round attractions, Torrevieja is positioning itself as a premier destination on the global tourism map.
