The Orihuela Council has released the preliminary results of its Online Training Platform for 2024, reporting a total of 779 applications processed and a course completion rate of 45%, with participants earning diplomas upon finishing.
This initiative, managed by the Department of Development, aims to enhance professional skills and improve employability.
Victor Valverde, Orihuela’s Employment Councillor, emphasized the program’s success, stating, “This service has been a resounding triumph, not only because of the number of applications but also because it promotes continuous learning and strengthens employment opportunities.” Valverde also stated that the Council will continue to offer accessible, free tools that address current training needs. He added, “The high level of participation motivates us to expand and improve our offerings in 2025.”
The participation report reveals the following demographics:
67% of participants were women, while 33% were men.
40% of participants were unemployed, reflecting the program’s focus on improving job prospects.
29% were public sector employees.
Workers in private employment accounted for 15%, followed by students (7%) and self-employed individuals or business owners (2%).
In terms of education levels:
44% of participants held secondary or vocational education qualifications (Bachillerato, FP II, or FP I).
25% had basic education qualifications (ESO or EGB).
15% held bachelor’s degrees, and 7% had completed diplomas.
Valverde highlighted the diversity of participants, saying, “This platform is not only for those seeking employment but also for individuals looking to improve their current roles or broaden their knowledge.”

Looking Ahead to 2025
Valverde announced that the 2025 course offerings will prioritise strategic areas such as emerging technologies, language skills, and transferable competencies. He emphasized the commitment to making training opportunities accessible to everyone seeking to enhance their career prospects, with a focus on supporting the unemployed.
“Our goal is to continue bringing training closer to all those who want to improve their chances in the labour market. Supporting unemployed individuals will remain a priority,” Valverde concluded.
