The Torrevieja Local Police are set to add a new police station near the port, complementing their main HQ opposite the Habaneras shopping centre and other stations in Los Balcones, La Siesta, and Alto de la Casilla (unused). This new facility is part of a project to connect the Levante breakwater with the new Paseo del Mar leisure centre.

Currently, the council is resurfacing the cantilevered promenade and finalizing the section of the breakwater left out of the project, near the Man of the Sea monument and Juan Aparicio promenade. The proposed new building under the promenade will house essential transformers to provide electricity to the leisure centre and the fair, which will return after its temporary relocation to Antonio Soria park.

This development opens up space for other uses, including a police presence. Councillor for Security Federico Alarcón stated that the local government aims to utilise this opportunity to enhance security in a key tourist area, especially with the anticipated increase in visitors with the opening of Paseo del Mar.

The exact functionality of the new police facilities is yet to be defined. Options include a checkpoint like the one in La Siesta or an office offering daytime customer service for administrative procedures and complaints. Alarcón emphasized that increased police presence would improve security and deter crime in the busy area.

Additionally, Alarcón mentioned that using this area is more suitable than constructing a new building within the fairgrounds, allowing the fair to use its designated space. The new building will also have space available for groups such as fair-goers or ‘hippies’.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón announced that the project would be put out to tender in December, aiming to award the contract early next year and complete the connecting bridge between the dam and the leisure centre by next summer.
