More than 30 airlines will connect to 135 airports across Europe, with several new destinations added.
Everything is set for Alicante-Elche Airport to begin what is expected to be its best season ever. With a total of 14.7 million seats scheduled—3.2% more than the same period in 2024—the airport is on track for record-breaking passenger traffic in early 2025.
Following the gradual unveiling of summer schedules by the major airlines operating at the airport and the announcement of new connections, the terminal in El Altet is set to reach unprecedented heights, with links to 30 different countries.
According to airport sources, between March 31 and late October, Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport will operate up to 226 routes, connecting with a total of 135 airports worldwide.
In total, more than 30 airlines will operate from Alicante-Elche, flying to 120 cities across Europe. Among the new additions to the flight network are Athens (Greece), Chișinău (Moldova), and Belgrade (Serbia), with flights operated by EasyJet, Sky Up, and Wizz Air, respectively. These three capitals will be served from Alicante for the first time.
THE UK MARKET TAKES CENTRE STAGE
The British market remains the key focus. In 2024, over 6.11 million passengers travelled between the UK and Alicante. The UK will have the most connections, with more than 20 routes available. The new Jet2 base at London Luton will further expand routes to Alicante, including a brand-new connection to Bournemouth in southern England.
Germany ranks as the second country with the most connections. More than four airlines will operate 15 different routes to German cities, including Berlin, Cologne, Frankfurt, Nuremberg, and Munich, with a total of 420,000 seats scheduled.
Poland, which had the third-largest number of foreign passengers in February, is also a growing market. Following a record-breaking 2024, with 846,940 travellers (a 57.4% increase from 2023), the country will now have around ten routes from Alicante, including several new ones.
AIRLINES AND THEIR BASES
Over 30 airlines will operate at Alicante-Elche Airport during the peak season, with four companies maintaining bases at the El Altet terminal.
Ryanair will continue to dominate, basing 18 aircraft and operating 90 routes. This increase from 2024 will allow the airline to exceed the 7.3 million passengers it carried last year. Key UK routes include London-Stansted and Manchester, both with 25 weekly flights.
EasyJet, the second-largest carrier by passenger volume, will maintain three aircraft at Alicante and operate 24 routes, including new flights to Naples and Athens.
Norwegian, the fourth-largest airline in terms of traffic, will base five aircraft and operate 18 routes, including an extended service to Riga, Latvia.
Vueling will reduce its fleet to three aircraft and cancel several routes, including Rome, Santiago, and Zurich, leaving it with fewer than 15 operational routes.
NEW ROUTES
In addition to strengthening existing routes, new connections have been introduced:
- EasyJet will launch flights to Athens.
- Wizz Air will begin operating flights to Belgrade.
- Sky Up will debut in Alicante with a new route to Chișinău, Moldova.
Ryanair continues to expand, despite cancelling its route to Santander. The airline is adding two new Austrian destinations—Linz and Salzburg—as well as a new Polish route to Bydgoszcz.
Meanwhile, EasyJet is extending its winter Naples route into the summer, and Norwegian is increasing the frequency of its Riga flights. Jet2 is also introducing two new routes: one to London-Luton and another to Bournemouth.
With these expansions, Alicante-Elche Airport is set for an unparalleled summer season, reinforcing its position as a key hub for European travel.
