To combat misinformation and encourage the adoption of dogs unfairly labelled as “dangerous breeds,” Asoka Orihuela, the organization managing the local animal protection centre, is hosting a special event on Sunday, March 30, at the Municipal Animal Protection Centre in San Bartolomé.
Titled ‘PPP: Potentially Perfect Dogs’, this event aims to educate attendees about these misunderstood breeds, giving them the chance to interact with and better understand dogs often wrongly categorized as Potentially Dangerous Breeds (PPP). Due to fear and misinformation, these dogs often struggle to find loving homes.
Currently, 44 dogs of these breeds are in Asoka Orihuela’s care, waiting for families willing to give them a second chance. Despite scientific studies confirming that aggression is not linked to breed, many of these dogs remain in shelters due to prejudice, misinformation, and the costly licensing requirements associated with adopting them.
The ‘Potentially Perfect Dogs’ event will focus on debunking myths, providing clear information about current laws, and guiding attendees through the process of obtaining the necessary adoption license. Most importantly, the event seeks to promote adoption, as shelters and rescues across Spain are overwhelmed with these dogs due to irresponsible ownership.
Visitors will have the opportunity to meet, walk, and interact with these wonderful dogs while enjoying a fun and rewarding morning.
How to Participate:
Those interested in attending must pre-register by emailing asokaorihuela@gmail.com, providing their name, surname, and the number of attendees.
Asoka Orihuela welcomes participants from Orihuela and surrounding areas to join in this meaningful and enjoyable event—a small act of kindness that could make a huge difference in the lives of these animals.
