The Councillor for Security and Emergencies of the Torrevieja Town Hall, Federico Alarcón, and the Chief of the Torrevieja Fire Department, Tomás Gallardo, have presented the action plan for the earthquake drill that will take place tomorrow, Friday, March 21, at 9:30 AM, at the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace.
This drill is being held to commemorate a historical event, the 1829 earthquake that affected Torrevieja and parts of the Vega Baja region, and, as Councillor Federico Alarcón emphasized, “to be prepared and know how to act in the face of adverse situations.”
Over fifty personnel from the Local Police, Civil Guard, Firefighters, and Civil Protection will coordinate to carry out the action plan for tomorrow’s drill.
Fire Chief Tomás Gallardo stated that a preventive evacuation will take place in all schools in Torrevieja. However, it will be at the “Tavi y Carmona” Sports Palace and at the IES Las Lagunas where a series of events will unfold, and the Security and Emergency forces will respond to resolve the seismic emergency.
Once the situation is resolved, a press conference will be held to explain what happened and how the drill was carried out.
The Councillor for Security and Emergencies, Federico Alarcón, expressed his gratitude for the cooperation and efforts of all the involved bodies, as well as the joint work being carried out, including the Department of Education of Torrevieja Town Hall and all the city’s educational centres.
