The Councilor for Modernization of the Santa Pola Town Hall, José Pedro Martínez González, accompanied by the Chief of Local Police, the Head of the IT Department, and a municipal technician, visited the Town Hall of Pilar de la Horadada to receive a demonstration of the video surveillance and traffic control system that has been operational in the municipality since May 2022.
Nieves Moreno, Councilor for Modernization in Pilar de la Horadada, explained that three years ago they positioned the municipality at “the forefront” of surveillance and traffic control systems, with a digital setup that has “increased tenfold” the versatility and functionality of the 16 previously installed cameras, which were non-operational. Furthermore, the new cameras consume 70% less energy than the old ones, resulting in significant cost savings.
Currently, the 55 active cameras are distributed across the main access roads and secondary routes throughout the municipality. These are supported by several license plate reading devices and cameras installed in various municipal public buildings.
The representatives from Santa Pola’s Town Hall were very impressed by the technology in place, which they are likely to replicate in their own municipality, stated Nieves Moreno.
Smart and Expandable System
The 55 digital artificial vision cameras with self-learning capabilities, installed throughout Pilar de la Horadada, are designed to ask questions and learn. From there, they begin to distinguish between vehicles and people. This learning ability helps optimize and streamline searches and records, making police work easier. These cameras not only “capture images, but understand them, measure them, and alert us when something unusual happens,” explained Councilor Nieves Moreno.
It’s a system capable of working with both live and recorded video simultaneously, performing advanced video searches by classified objects, tags, motion detection, thumbnails, and more. These are high-resolution cameras with excellent image capture capabilities even in low-light conditions.
Pilar de la Horadada’s traffic and security camera system is scalable, allowing for unlimited expansion and offering maximum protection against cyberattacks. Currently, there are plans for a third expansion, which will include additional license plate detection equipment.
