The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, along with the Councillor for Tourism, Rosario Martínez, met with Israel Martínez, the Director General of Tourism of the Generalitat Valenciana, to discuss current and future tourism initiatives for the city.

One of the main topics addressed was the importance of Torrevieja having its own stand at the Madrid International Tourism Fair (FITUR), highlighting its status as a Tourist Excellence Municipality and one of Spain’s most important destinations for second-home tourism. The mayor also informed the director about the strong participation of local businesses in the SICTED program, a national initiative to improve tourism quality, with 103 services already involved and 74 distinguished businesses.

Funding for major events was another key point of discussion. The mayor requested financial support from the Valencian Tourism Agency for large-scale leisure events such as the Reggaetón Beach Festival, Brilla Torrevieja, and Torrevieja Weekend, which attract thousands of visitors each year. In addition, the city’s Strategic Tourism Plan for 2025-2029 was presented, outlining objectives to make Torrevieja a more competitive, sustainable, and innovative destination by expanding and enhancing its tourism offerings.

Infrastructure improvements were also a focus, with plans to create a new central Tourist Office in the former ice factory and to renovate the existing information point at Playa del Cura. The mayor requested financial support from the regional government to carry out these projects. Another important initiative discussed was the recognition of key cultural events. The mayor announced that the administrative process has begun to have Torrevieja’s Carnival declared an event of National Tourist Interest, while also seeking recognition of Holy Week as a festival of Autonomous Tourist Interest.

Finally, the meeting addressed recent regulatory changes affecting vacation rental properties. The mayor requested the organization of an informational session in Torrevieja to assist rental management companies in understanding the new legislation, as this issue is of great importance to the local tourism sector.
