María Dolores Ruiz, the Councillor for Community Services of the San Javier Town Council, presented an overview of the upcoming Integrated Action Plan (PAI) for San Javier, titled “Taking Flight,” during a plenary meeting last night. The plan is part of the Council’s bid for European funding in the latest call for applications.
The PAI will incorporate input from local groups and will focus on essential areas such as mobility, sustainability, infrastructure, public spaces, and digital services. It includes a range of proposed actions, according to a statement from municipal sources.
Francisco Montalbán, a member of the technical assistance team supporting the plan’s development, also attended the meeting with local residents and groups. He outlined the details of the call, the key objectives, and the types of actions that could be submitted, along with the funding percentages, which will cover 60% of the total budget.
The City Council’s plan will be selected through a competitive bidding process under the FEDER Financial Pathway Allocation for Integrated Action Plans for local entities. This program, part of the Sustainable Urban Development framework, is funded by the European Regional Development Fund for the 2021-2027 period.
Ruiz emphasized the San Javier City Council’s strong track record with similar funding initiatives, recalling the success of the previous Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy (EDUSI) for San Javier. The initiative received €4,999,314 in FEDER aid and achieved a 99.8% execution rate, far exceeding the national average of approximately 70%.
The EDUSI program led to significant advancements, including improvements in e-administration, the transformation into a Smart City, the development of a Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan, and the revitalization of green spaces such as Parque Almansa Civic Centre. It also funded the construction of the winter auditorium and various upgrades in the San Francisco Javier neighborhood, among other projects.
