Orihuela Mayor Pepe Vegara presented the new equipment for the municipal company ILDO this morning, alongside Infrastructure Councilor Víctor Valverde, Costa Councilor Manuel Mestre, Social Welfare Councilor Agustina Rodríguez, and ILDO Manager Mercedes González. The company has now officially begun operations under a management assignment for the maintenance of green spaces in Orihuela Costa.
This contract had been expired since 2017, but as of February, the municipal company has taken over the service following the mandate from the Orihuela City Council.
Expanded Workforce and Upgraded Equipment
“We have increased the number of workers from 17 to 38 and renewed essential tools and vehicles to enhance the service. Residents are already noticing improvements in some areas, and we will continue along this path,” explained Infrastructure Councilor Víctor Valverde. He emphasized that “we have always been confident that ILDO was the right company to handle this service.”
Costa Councilor Manuel Mestre expressed his satisfaction, saying, “We have overcome administrative challenges, and I want to highlight the social impact of this municipal company taking on this responsibility. It is worth recognizing, as all employees are fully committed to their tasks.”
Workforce and Equipment
The official presentation of the new fleet and equipment took place at Playa Flamenca. ILDO’s workforce for this service consists of 38 employees, including a specialized agricultural engineer. Notably, 70% of the gardening staff in Orihuela Costa are workers with disabilities. The team is divided into six brigades: five groups of seven workers each and a specialized mechanical brigade for pruning palm trees and large trees.
The company has implemented a structured plan for gardening tasks, including sectorizing work areas, distributing teams, organizing daily schedules, and establishing monitoring systems.
The newly acquired equipment includes:
Vehicles: 4 trucks (3,500 kg) with three-seat cabs and open tipping beds, 5 nine-seater vans, 5 light trailers for vans, 2 two-seater vans with storage compartments, and 1 passenger car for technical staff—totaling 12 vehicles and 5 trailers.
Machinery: A Bobcat-type mini excavator, a wood chipper, 19 chainsaws, 19 blowers, 15 brush cutters, 22 hedge trimmers, 8 lawnmowers, 11 pruners, pesticide treatment tanks, and various gardening tools.
Mayor Highlights ILDO’s Commitment and Recognition
Mayor Pepe Vegara reaffirmed his trust in ILDO’s ability to manage the service effectively. “We were fully confident in ILDO’s capability, and this decision has proven to be the right one. The company has consistently demonstrated its dedication and efficiency, and the results are already visible on the ground. Now, they have the best resources to carry out their work,” he stated.
National Award for ILDO
Additionally, the mayor announced that ILDO has recently received the National Award for Best Special Employment Center in Spain. He congratulated ILDO’s manager, Mercedes González, and the entire team for this well-deserved recognition.
