This morning, the first meeting of the Torrevieja Port Table took place at the offices of Ports of the Generalitat Valenciana, with the attendance of Marc García, Director General of Coasts, Ports, and Airports; Eduardo Dolón, Mayor of Torrevieja; and Agustina Esteve, the Consell Delegate in Alicante.
The meeting included representatives from all entities and companies located in the city’s port area, such as the Real Club Náutico de Torrevieja (RCNT), the Marina Internacional and Marina Salinas marinas, the Fishermen’s Guild, the Torrevieja saltworks, the Marina Internacional tourist apartments, the shipyard, and the concessionaire company of the Torrevieja Leisure Centre.
The Director General of Ports announced that the Torrevieja City Council now has the required authorization and approval to begin the improvement works on Mínguez Dock. The primary electrification works for the port area, including the reurbanization of the surrounding area and the La Libertad promenade, will also begin soon.
On March 1, the “hippie huts” will be relocated to the Vía Verde, where they will be open to the public during Easter.
Marc García emphasized that the Port of Torrevieja, along with the Port of Denia, is the most important in the Valencian Community, with over 100 million euros currently being invested by both the leisure centre concessionaire and the city council.
In parallel, the Valencian government is working on the global concession process for the surrounding area of the Eras de la Sal and the reordering and reurbanization of the port front. This concession is expected to be finalized by March, which will allow the City Council to begin works on the new auditorium for the Eras de la Sal area, which will be built in the former shipyard of Marina Internacional.
The Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, has announced that the intention is for the 2026 International Habaneras and Polyphony Competition to be held at this new venue.
Another issue discussed during the meeting with the representatives of the marinas and yacht clubs from Marina Salinas, Marina Internacional, and RCNT was the request for an extension of the concession to continue their operations.
This extension depends on the investments that these ports are set to make, which have already been presented to the Director General of Ports.
The concessionaire responsible for the development of the Torrevieja Leisure Centre, Enrique Riquelme, announced that the underground parking with 640 spaces will open in March, alongside the new access road that will connect from Avenida de La Libertad to the Dique de Levante.
Additionally, Riquelme stated that the Leisure Centre will be inaugurated in July once all the works are completed.
Finally, Mayor Eduardo Dolón announced that the pedestrian bridge connecting the Dique de Levante to the upper level of the Leisure Centre is expected to be completed by June 2025.
