Leroy Merlin has filed an appeal against the Torrevieja City Council’s approval of a major works permit for a new Bauhaus store in the La Hoya residential area. The appeal, lodged with the Administrative Litigation Court number 2 of Elche, was announced yesterday by Federico Alarcón, the councillor-secretary of the Government Board. The council has yet to review the details of the appeal.

Leroy Merlin already operates in Torrevieja, with locations in the Habaneras shopping centre and along the CV-905, the main route into the city from the AP-7. This legal action follows the council’s decision to approve the construction of a new Bauhaus centre, which represents a major competitor to Leroy Merlin.

The German company has been allocated a large plot of land, about 40,000 square meters, for its store in La Hoya. Located near the roundabout at the intersection of CV-905 and Calle José Carreras, the new store will be only one kilometre from the existing Leroy Merlin locations. The La Hoya development includes a commercial area along the CV-905, designed to reduce flooding risks from heavy rains.

Bauhaus, a leading European retailer specializing in home improvement, DIY, and gardening, operates 250 stores in 20 countries. The Torrevieja location will be the first in the Alicante province. The city government has expressed its support for the arrival of the German firm, citing the job opportunities it will bring.

Before construction can begin, the City Council is awaiting the delivery of the first roads in the area, a process that was initially scheduled for December but has since been delayed.
