Torrevieja’s Department of Parks and Gardens is carrying out course of health treatment for one of the Araucaria trees planted in the Plaza de la Constitución.
Signs of decline have been observed in the tree since last summer, situated in the eastern section of the square near Bazán Street. The tree’s condition has been marked by a gradual discoloration of its leaves, although no visible signs of fungal infections or other diseases have been detected.
Irrigation levels for the tree were increased to counteract the high summer temperatures. Additionally, during November and December, a fertilization program was implemented using nutrients applied through the irrigation system. The most recent fertilization treatment was administered on January 14.
Concha Sala, the councillor responsible for the department, emphasized that “no effort or resources will be spared to ensure the improvement and full recovery of the tree.” However, she also acknowledged that if the current treatment proves ineffective, the tree may ultimately need to be removed, in which case, it will be replaced with another tree of similar size.
