Orihuela has inaugurated the National Police Avenue and unveiled a commemorative monument to celebrate 200 years of the National Police’s service. The tribute event, organized by Orihuela Town Hall, included the participation of Mayor Pepe Vegara, local officials, and National Police representatives, including provincial chief Feliciano Lafuente Lázaro.
The ceremony began with the hoisting of the Spanish flag and the national anthem, followed by a review of the police formation. A minute of silence honoured victims of the 2019 DANA floods. Mayor Vegara praised the National Police’s dedication, emphasizing their vital role in safeguarding lives and maintaining order, especially during emergencies like the 2019 floods. He also highlighted their adaptability to Orihuela’s evolving needs and reaffirmed the city’s gratitude through the Gold Medal awarded to the corps in 2003.
The event included a floral tribute to fallen officers, the unveiling of the avenue’s official plaque, and an exhibition of the police’s mobile fleet, featuring drones, canine units, and a Condor Unit helicopter. The ceremony concluded with performances of the National Police, Valencian Community, and Spanish anthems.
This heartfelt tribute underscored Orihuela’s respect, admiration, and gratitude for the National Police’s tireless service and commitment.
