The Department of Education has officially taken delivery of the prefabricated classrooms for School No. 20, located in the PAU-4 Los Dolses sector of Orihuela Costa.

Representatives included technical staff from the Department of Education as well as local councillors for Education and Urban Planning, who confirmed that the interior work on the classrooms is now fully complete.

The project, completed within a two-month timeframe, consists of prefabricated classrooms distributed over two floors, designed to accommodate up to 450 students from preschool and primary levels.

The facility includes 18 classrooms, each with a student-to-teacher ratio of 20 to 25, as well as additional spaces such as a therapeutic pedagogy room, a language development room, a library, a staff lounge, and offices for the administrative team, which has already been appointed by the Department of Education.

At present, the final stages of the project are still to be completed, including paving the surrounding area and connecting the facility to power and water supply networks. These steps were delayed until cranes and other equipment used during construction were removed. The project is expected to be fully completed by mid-January, with the interior furnishings set to be installed in the coming days.

This initiative addresses some of the long-standing concerns about overcrowding in Orihuela Costa’s schools and aims to ensure students have access to quality education under optimal conditions by the 2025 school year.

While the prefabricated classrooms were funded by the Department of Education, the site preparation was carried out by the Orihuela Council at a cost of €215,712.91.

The Councillor for Education spoke of the significance of the project, stating, “This is absolutely essential due to the continuing overcrowding in Orihuela Costa. With this new school, we are taking a major step towards solving an issue that has been affecting families in this area for a long time.”
