In 2024, the staff at Torrevieja’s Department of Social Welfare increased from 16 to 34 professionals, doubling the personnel investment from 662,783 euros to 1,300,000 euros. The town centre office has been refurbished to accommodate the growth, optimizing resource management through improvements in the physical environment, staffing, and services.
Three Main Lines of Action:
Physical Environment: Premises at Calle Torrevejenses Ausentes have been adapted for better accessibility and efficiency. Additional facilities have been equipped at Avenida de las Habaneras and the satellite Ayuntamiento in la Mata, creating three points of attention.
Professional Field: New staff include administrative assistants, social workers, psychologists, social educators, an equality agent, promoter, legal advisor, social integration technician, and a coordinator. This expansion aims to meet the public demands more effectively.
Services and Benefits: The Zonal Strategic Plan, starting in 2025, will establish three basic zones for social services. This zoning will enable in-depth knowledge of local needs, improving resource planning. Basic primary care services have been reinforced, and new competitions have been announced for additional positions. A specialised service for mental illness care (SASEM) will be implemented in 2025.
The restructuring aims to improve access to social care services, reduce waiting lists, and focus on an inclusive intervention model cantered on user needs. So far in 2024, the department has managed around 3,000 fostering files, 800 in Renta Valenciana, 2,627 dependency files, and approximately 700 family-related files.
