These funds would be allocated to three strategic areas: the regeneration of the historic centre; the structuring of the municipality; and the provision of infrastructure for the coast.
The Orihuela Council will be preparing a submission during the next round of bids for European funds, the Local Comprehensive Development Strategy (EDIL) 2025-2029 with projects amounting to more than 20 million euros.
This was announced by the Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, at the meeting he held last Tuesday in Brussels with Valentina Corsetti, head of the DG REGIO, General Directorate of Regional Policies.
The projects, which will be announced in detail soon, revolve around three strategic axis: the regeneration of the historic centre to assist in urban renewal, social and habitability; the structuring of the municipality by providing sustainable public transport between the coastal districts and the centre; and finally, the provision of infrastructure for the coast with improved facilities.
These projects, which will be announced in detail shortly, are practically complete thanks to the work of the European Funds area of the council, made up of a specialised team created for the efficient management of these grants.
The Mayor of Orihuela, Pepe Vegara, has highlighted the importance of this visit for the development of the municipality for which “we are doing responsible work, with viable and essential projects to complete investments planned in our municipality.”
