Patio Andaluz restaurant was the place to be recently for 41 of the Torrevieja U3A members who gathered to enjoy a 3 course meal with a 1.5 hour flamenco show. Many took the opportunity to dress accordingly whilst Pauline Breen, one of the Social Team organisers, enjoyed a serenade on her birthday. A night of Spanish entertainment, enjoyed by all.
Tuesday 22nd October saw a coachful of mainly Torrevieja U3A members boarding an Eurotours coach to take them to the first major stop of their 3 day tour of the Albacete region.
The highlights of the tour started late that morning at Petrer when the group had a tour of the famous Shoe Museum in which there are hundreds of machines on display that were used in the past for shoe manufacture. Also on display were shoes of all sorts, shapes and sizes including copies of shoes that had been made for Queen Elizabeth as well as The Pope. (the photo below is of some of the shoes that have been produced…honestly).
After travelling on to Albacete for checking in at the hotel and a quick lunch, the next major stop was at the Albacete Knife Museum where we were entertained with a talk given by an extremely knowledgeable and interesting guide. Thousands of knives of hugely differing sizes were on display. This museum is certainly worthy of a visit.
Over the 3 days there were visits to local towns and villages to visit several cathedrals and churches and other places of interest.
These are just a couple of the many activities that are available to our members. Visit our website torrevijau3a.org for fuller details of the association and info on how you can join.
