Tottenham Hotspur’s academy midfielder Yago Santiago has been sold to Spanish second division side Elche. The 21-year-old joined Spurs’ academy from Celta Vigo in 2019 and showed promise, particularly last season in the Premier League 2 where he scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists in 1700 minutes.

However, despite his impressive performances, Santiago was not given a chance in the first team under new manager Ange Postecoglou.

While some fans may be disappointed, this is a common occurrence in youth academies. Most players do not make it to the top level of their parent club, and selling them to other clubs for a small fee is a positive outcome. Santiago’s move to Elche provides him with an opportunity to continue his development in his home country and potentially earn a transfer to a bigger club in the future.

The exact terms of the deal, including the transfer fee and any potential sell-on clauses, have not been disclosed. However, it is likely that Tottenham received a modest fee for the player.
