Oakley Books Ltd announces the launch of TALES OF THE SUPERNATURAL

(ISBN 978-1-9160279-5-4) by Peter Marshall.

The book is a collection of spooky stories, none of which are completely divorced from fact and two of which are true in every detail. It deals with a variety of themes, including ghosts of animals, historical legends, poltergeists, reincarnation, settlement of ancient scores, gruesome murder, ghosts linked to objects, witchcraft, haunted buildings transcendental love affairs, seances and even the consequence of a scientific experiment that went wrong.

The interesting thing about this book is that it is no naïve and credulous ghostophile that has written it. This is written by an author who has his feet firmly on the ground. Dr Peter Marshall shares his time between his home in Torrevieja and his work as a  Harley Street psychologist of repute, who understands paranormal phenomenon and the appeal it has for readers of this genre.

Peter is an intelligent author with a scientific approach to life. He has held many offices in Mensa, from being the first Research Director of The Mensa Foundation for Gifted Children, following the important contribution to the literature on the education of gifted children that his PhD made, earning him a place among the historical doyens on the subject in Wikipedia. He has been a Regional Chairman and Local Editor for many years and more recently a member of The Governance Advisory Committee. Because of his lifetime achievements and contributions to the organisation the Mensa Magazine published a biographical article on him in July 2020, hailing him The Ultimate Polymath.

So why did a hard-headed health professional and prolific author cast out in this new direction? His answer is twofold.  Firstly, as a psychologist he understands paranormal phenomena much better than most and knows what buttons to press to invoke the thrills that readers of this genre seek.  Not only has he a thorough understanding of how the mind works, in particular the amygdala – the fear centre, but also he understands how perception works and demonstrates this in a podcast on his trademarked YouTube Channel – Entelechy Channel.

Secondly, he has become aware that readers attention spans are decreasing. School curricula and even university literature courses are using shorter books than they did in the past, because of this, and that’s the way things are going, he says. The first of these reasons explains the choice of subject matter and the second explains why he has chosen to enter the short stories genre.
