The educational community and families of children at CEIP Playas de Orihuela will gather every Monday in front of the school to demand urgent solutions to the growing lack of educational resources. The protest began last Monday, starting at 08:50 , coinciding with the start of classes, and will continue until parents feel that their concerns are being taken seriously by the Orihuela Government.
The main reason for the protest is concern about the school’s inability to cope with the increase of more than 100 new students recently enrolled. They claim that, despite the authorities’ promises, problems, to which the government promised solutions, are still unresolved and are now seriously affecting the quality of education offered at the school.
Main claims
1. Lack of infrastructure: Current facilities cannot accommodate the growing number of students, and no steps have been taken to expand the physical areas available in the school.
2. Shortage of teaching staff: Parents and school staff fear that a shortage of teachers will lead to a decline in individual attention and overall quality of teaching.
3. Lack of educational resources: The equipment and materials needed to ensure adequate education remain insufficient, causing concern among families.
The organisers of the protest have expressed their frustration with recent measures taken by the educational authorities, which they consider insufficient to address the magnitude of the problem. “We are here to demand that the voice of families be heard. We cannot continue to tolerate inaction while our children are harmed by poorly managed council decisions. We want a decent educational future for our children,” they said.
The school community calls on the Department of Education and local authorities to take immediate measures, committed to guaranteeing an adequate educational environment for the students of Colegio Playas de Orihuela.
The lack of adequate infrastructure, the insufficient number of teachers and the lack of educational resources are the main challenges facing the centre, whose situation directly affects the well-being of children and young people in Orihuela Costa.
