The Spanish Navy patrol boat “Formentor”, based at Cartagena, will make a stopover at the Marina Miramar marina in Santa Pola on Thursday 19 September 19, as part of one of its maritime surveillance missions on the Mediterranean coast.
During its stay, the ship will offer an open day from 17:15 to 19:15, allowing visitors to board the vessel and learn about its missions and the resources on board. The visit will take place on pontoon “G” at the Marina Miramar. In addition, at dusk, there will be a solemn lowering of the flag, a military act full of symbolism that can be witnessed from the dock.
The patrol boat “Formentor” has a special historical connection with Alicante, as it was originally based in this province since its delivery to the Navy in 1989. This year marks the 35th anniversary of the ship, which adds special significance to its stopover in Santa Pola.
The “Formentor”, a “Toralla” class vessel, has among its main missions the surveillance of maritime traffic, environmental protection, fishing surveillance and the protection of underwater archaeological heritage. It also collaborates with other state agencies in tasks related to the maritime field.
