The water supplies in the Alicante province currently stand at just 21% of their capacity, according to this week’s hydrographical report, although this has increased by 0.32% compared to the previous week.

Although this figure is of grave concern, with restrictions in place mostly affecting agriculture, many institutions, including town halls for example, are still using and wasting water in abundance.

There are other areas where the situation is looking near disastrous, such as in Almeria, for example, where the reservoirs currently hold just 8%.

Combining all reservoirs across the country, they are collectively at 49% capacity.

Farmers around the country are warning of a disastrous season due to the water restrictions, which will affect food supplies and prices, they say.

The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolon, a man of questionable environmental integrity, recently gave a speech talking about the need to support citrus farmers, and yet, Torrevieja is one of the towns where water is used as if there is an endless supply so clean streets, amongst other blatant waste.
