This year, the Alicante Provincial Council will allocate 380,000 euro to collaborate with the municipalities of the province in carrying out treatments to control dipterans -flies and mosquitoes-. A total of 128 municipalities and smaller local entities will benefit from this funding, intended to prevent pests and protect the ecosystem by pouring copious amounts of chemicals into the environment.

“Our commitment to the local councils to tackle the proliferation of these insects is absolute. For this reason, we launch this important line of subsidies every year to help them carry out this action,” explained the Deputy for Environment and Energy, Magdalena Martínez.

The programme, which will be available to all local councils that have requested it correctly in a timely manner, includes the development of pest control processes in those localities that, due to the special characteristics of their territory, have a higher presence of populations of Culicidae (mosquitoes) and Simulidae (black flies).

In the Vega Baja, Albatera, Algorfa, Almoradi, Benejúzar, Benferri, Benijofar, Bigastro, Callosa de Segura, Catral, Cox, Daya Nueva, Daya Vieja, Dolores, Formentera del Segura, Granja de Rocamora, Guardamar del Segura, Jacarilla, Los Montesinos, Orihuela, Pilar de la Horadada, Rafal, Redován, Rojales, San Fulgencio, San Isidro, San Miguel de Salinas and Torrevieja will receive a share of the funding.
