Catral and San Fulgencio amongst the municipalities to benefit from a share of 384,000 euro granted by the Department of Environment, Infrastructure and Territory in the Valencian Community for the drafting of Special Plans for the Minimisation of Territorial Impacts (PEMIT).

As explained by the Director General of Urban Planning, Landscape and Environmental Assessment, Miguel Ángel Ivorra, the aim of this initiative is to “avoid or reduce the harmful effects on the territory and the environment of housing built on non-urbanisable, common or protected land.”

This procedure, which is held annually, allows the municipalities of the Valencian Community to request subsidies for the preparation of urban planning documents related to the minimisation of territorial impacts.

Specifically, in this call for applications, 28 grants have been awarded to municipalities with up to 20,000 inhabitants. In short, nine grants have been awarded for a total amount of 90,000 euro; 16 for an amount of 240,000 euro and three grants amounting to 54,000 euro.

The town councils benefiting from these subsidies are: Parcent, Vilamarxant, Barx, Godelleta, Macastre, L’ Alcúdia de Crespins, Betxí, Borriol, La Nucía, Albalat dels Tarongers, Catral, Benifairó de la Valldigna, Rafelguaraf, La Font d’ in Carròs, Finestrat, Bocairent, Alginet and San Fulgencio.

In order to qualify for these grants, there must be housing units with a density equal to or greater than three dwellings per hectare and they must be located on areas of non-urbanisable, common or protected land. The grants are awarded based on the number of dwellings existing in each unit.

In addition, the requirements for being eligible for these grants specify that the properties where the homes are located must have been built before August 20, 2014.

For Miguel Ángel Ivorra, “the administration must be a driving force and example in matters of urban planning and environmental care and for this reason, the Department of the Environment is launching these grants to facilitate this task for the municipalities.”
