The seventh month of the year, traditionally one of the strongest for Alicante tourism, has not disappointed on this occasion either. The final hotel occupancy rate for the province of Alicante has stood at 86.5%, a figure that is 1.5 percentage points higher than that recorded in the same month of 2023.
This rate is the highest of the year, exceeding that of June by 6.0 points and that of May – the highest so far – by 3.6 points. The trend, only broken in June, of improving year-on-year occupancy records is recovering.
Profitability indicators are also favourable. The average daily rate is 8.4% higher than the figure for a year ago, while profitability per available room is also up, by 10.2% year-on-year.
It is worth bearing in mind that the hoteliers were against a tourist tax which would ask visitors to contribute to the local services as they said that it would damage the sector, and yet that tax would have been considerably lower than the increased profits they are making without benefitting their communities.
By locality, the city of Alicante has reached an occupancy rate of 89.1% and Playa de San Juan 97.3%. Other localities with high rates have been Jávea (93.9%), Denia (85.7%), Santa Pola (85.0%) or Guardamar del Segura (84.0%). Less high rates have been recorded in Orihuela (55.9%), Algorfa (51.0%), Ibi (35.0%) or Villena (30.0%).
The majority of tourists in July came from international sources (68.0%) compared to 32.0% of national visitors. Of those arriving from abroad, the most notable were those from the United Kingdom (25.3%), France (8.1%), Norway (6.8%), Italy (5.1%), Ireland (4.7%), Switzerland (4.7%) and Sweden (4.4%). Of the national visitors, the most numerous were those from the Community of Madrid (28.1%), followed by those from the Valencian Community (23.1%), Castilla La Mancha (9.3%), Catalonia (7.5%), Castilla y León (6.8%) and Andalusia (6.2%).
