The picturesque locality of Sopalmo, a district of Mojácar, is preparing to celebrate its traditional festivities in honour of Christ the King from the 9th to the 11th of August 2024. With a programme packed with activities, music and events for all ages, these festivities promise to be a gathering point and celebration for residents and visitors from neighbouring towns.

The festivities will begin on Friday 9th of August with the exciting ribbon race for married men, followed by a night of dancing livened up by the talented ‘Rafael and his accordion’. This event marks the beginning of a vibrant weekend, full of tradition and joy.

Saturday 1st of August will be a day full of outstanding events, including the much-anticipated opening address by Alberto Cena Lázaro, a renowned professional closely linked to Sopalmo. His connection to the hamlet and his outstanding professional career add a special touch to the opening ceremony of the festivities. To continue, the night will be filled with music by the “La Rueda” quintet, and there will be the crowning of the festivities’ Queen and Ladies of Honor dressed in the typical costume of Mojácar.

The festivities will conclude on Sunday 11th of August with the youth ribbon race, an event that celebrates youth and local tradition, providing a perfect ending to a weekend full of fun and community.

These festivities not only represent an opportunity to enjoy diverse activities but also to strengthen community ties and celebrate Sopalmo’s rich cultural heritage, which brings together both Mojácar locals and residents of nearby towns.

Festivals and Celebrations Councillor Pascual Artero stated: “We are very excited about this year’s Sopalmo Festivities. We have worked hard to offer a varied programme which includes activities for all ages. These festivities are an opportunity for all the residents of the hamlet, Mojácar and nearby towns to get together, celebrate our traditions and enjoy music and entertainment. We hope to see everyone enjoying these very special days.”
