Mojácar has taken a significant step towards modernisation and sustainable tourism management with the implementation of its Smart City platform. This advance has been possible thanks to the agreement between the Most Beautiful Villages in Spain Association and Telefónica Tech, and has allowed Mojácar to register a notable increase in the number of visitors, reaching a total of 556,428 people in the first half of 2024.
Mojácar’s smart platform is based on the collection of anonymous data through visitors’ mobile phones, providing a key tool for the transformation of the destination towards a more efficient and sustainable management model. This system allows for obtaining detailed information on the behaviour and characteristics of tourists, facilitating strategic decision-making in areas such as sustainability, accessibility and innovation.
In the first six months of 2024, Mojácar received 556,428 visitors over the age of 18. This figure includes both tourists who stayed overnight in the municipality and tourists who did day trips. In June, the figure of more than 116,000 visitors to the municipality was recorded, putting Mojácar among the top five national destinations preferred by tourists for going on holiday.
The number of national resident tourists exceeded international tourists with a total of 218,774 people against the 185,641 arriving from other countries. The analysis of the origin data reveals that Mojácar attracts a diverse public from very diverse markets, with countries such as the UK, Germany and France standing out in international markets. Visitors of national origin are also from very varied markets, with those from Madrid, Murcia, Andalucía, Castilla la Mancha and Valencia standing out in number.
The implementation of the smart platform in Mojácar has not only allowed for better monitoring and analysis of tourism in the municipality, but has also reinforced its commitment to innovation and sustainability. This advance positions Mojácar as a benchmark in the digital transformation of tourist destinations, offering its visitors a high-quality experience and contributing to more responsible and efficient tourism development.
Mojácar celebrates the excellent tourism results obtained in the first half of 2024 thanks to the joint effort of business owners, sector professionals and the Local Council through its Tourism Department and Government team. This success is the fruit of meticulous work that has paid attention to each of the sensitive sectors of the complex and competitive world of tourism.
