The mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, accompanied by the Councillor for Sports, Diana Box, the construction director of ORTHEM, Ramón Guijalba, and residents of the area, visited the works of the municipal sports pavilion of La Mata, located just off the N-332.
During his visit, the mayor announced that the works are at a very good pace, so it is expected that before the end of this year, 2024, this sports infrastructure will be completed, and the established deadline will be brought forward, which It is 18 months of execution.
The construction director, Ramón Guijalba, has reported that the La Mata pavilion, which has an execution budget of nearly 6 million euro, is going to change the format of its main façade to a more attractive one that will allow it to protect the building from the entry of sunlight.
Among the novelties that the pavilion will have, its ground floor may have a gym of more than 100 m2, in addition to two multipurpose rooms of 95 m2 each, which could be unified, and that will allow hosting meetings and social and cultural activities, which will meet the growing demand in this Torrevieja district, as well as the changing rooms for teams and refereeing, toilets, outdoor lobby, cafeteria, access control and cloakroom.
Likewise, various facilities will be located in the basement that has been built in the pavilion and will also serve as a warehouse, so the ground floor can have more services for its users.
The La Mata pavilion will have a 44 x 23 metre sports court, enabled for the practice of sports such as indoor soccer, volleyball, handball, basketball or badminton, in accordance with the specific regulations of the Higher Sports Council (CSD).
In addition, the building allows a transversal layout to combine several simultaneous events and will have capacity for 400 people with a seating area of almost 200 seats.
