Another major fire on the outskirts of Torrevieja overnight Tuesday/Wednesday, close to the AP7 exit at km 758, leading to Torrevieja and San Miguel de Salinas.
The large column of smoke, visible across the city and Orihuela Costa, triggered alarms in Torrevieja in the early hours of the morning.
The fire broke out just after midnight, in a rural property located near the CV95, close to the La Coronelita and Lago Jardin II urbanisations.
The situation quickly became serious due to the magnitude of the fire, which devastated a palm grove. Flames reached the top of the trees, generating high flames and an emergency of considerable proportions.
Fire crews were quickly on the scene, at exit 75 of the highway, where they encountered a large fire that represented a significant challenge. The rapid spread of the fire and the height reached by the flames further complicated the fire.

A wide range of resources and specialised personnel were deployed with a command and leadership unit, as well as a variety of pump units, including a heavy urban pump, a heavy rural pump, and a heavy mother pump.
A sergeant and a corporal, along with nine firefighters from the Torrevieja and Almoradí parks were joined by two units of forest fire fighters to specifically address the forest terrain.

The fire destroyed more than 350 large Washingtonian palm trees on an area of more than 12,000 square metres.
