The Los Verdes-Compromís group accused Torrevieja Council of inactivity and non-compliance with the General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU) as well as of not providing the means to prevent events such as the fire that affected the Lago Sol estate.
The former mayor of Los Verdes, José Manuel Dolón, has regretted the event that has occurred on protected land of the Lagunas de la Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park, which has affected the Lago Sol farm and that has burned “an illegal storage establishment” of damaged vehicles, one of the many irregular constructions on protected land in the Natural Park.”
According to Dolón, “The Greens and fundamentally the neighbours have repeatedly denounced this situation of irregularity without the municipal government having lifted a finger. These are constructions and activities that do not have a municipal licence nor can they obtain one because the Governing Plan for the Use and Management of the Lagunas de la Mata and Torrevieja Natural Park 2010 the Generalitat Valencian prohibits any activity or major work that represents any type of impact on the park.”
“The different determinations approved for the management of the park’s natural resources for the delimitation of protected areas and the PGOU prevent activity that is not strictly agricultural. The fed-up neighbours with the repeated complaints to the city council without measures being taken to prevent this type of activities from continuing to occur in a protected area, fills the camel’s back in the face of events like this,” Dolón defended.
“The inactivity of the municipal government is reliable, because they are aware of the irregular activities that we denounce and have done nothing to protect or comply with the urban planning regulations and the activities that take place in the systems of wetlands and protected areas of Torrevieja,” concluded José Manuel Dolón.
