Alicante has missed out on its attempt to bring the 2026 Veterans World Cup to the city (the ITTF World Master Championship) scheduled for May 2026), with South Korea chosen to host the event following the last phase of the selection process held during the ITTF General Assembly on Monday and Tuesday in Busan (Korea). Korea’s proposal attracted 26 votes compared to the 18 that were obtained by the Alicante candidacy.
The decision has frustrated the Royal Spanish Table Tennis Federation (RFETM) expectations that Alicante would once again host the competition that it previously organised in 2016 at the Fira Alacant facilities (the old IFA), when more than 4,608 athletes from 80 countries took part, the largest number of participants ever achieved, with the consequent impact on tourist accommodation.
For now, however, Alicante can still look forward to hosting the Spanish School Age Table Tennis Championship, with more than 200 participants from 28 to 31 March 28 at Fitur.
