The president of the Generalitat has visited the World Fresh Fruit Trade Fair ‘Fruit Logística 2024’ in Berlin, where he said that, together with the region of Murcia, “the garden of Europe is in the Valencian Community and we are going to fight to keep it that way.”
Mazón highlighted the Consell’s defence of the Valencian agricultural product that “stands out for its quality, innovation and fight against adversity” and has expressed his pride in the agri-food sector of the Community.
The president travelled to the World Fresh Fruit Trade Fair ‘Fruit Logística 2024’ to defend the interests and measures requested by the agricultural sector of the Valencian Community. Among other things, they are demanding action to reduce bureaucracy, the control of unfair competition from third countries, reciprocity, the simplification of eco-regimes of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), the imposition of the digital notebook, advice on regulations on fertilization and on integrated pest management.
The Generalitat, through the Department of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, has also urged the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, to request the European Commission to mobilize funds from the CAP crisis reserve, corresponding to the financial year 2024.
The fund will help farmers cope with the production and price crisis as a result of the persistent drought and also the effects of the current war conflicts. Furthermore, the Generalitat has asked the central government to include vineyards and olive groves in this aid, “the great forgotten industries of previous years.”
Mazón has also requested “an end” to the political instrumentalisation of water” and has demanded an end to “the ideological cuts” of the Tajo – Segura transfer. The head of the Consell has asked the government not to play with “the rigor and reports that guarantee “there is water for everyone in Spain” and he highlighted that in the Valencian Community “we have already done our homework with our own internal transfers” so “we need to stop the politics of water.”
