Mojácar Council has announced a competition to celebrate Andalucía Day, called “Decora tu Fachada,” by challenging residents of the town to decorate their balconies and facades to mark this important day in the year on February 28th.
Using any of the typical Andalucían colours, themes and traditional motifs, those wishing to enter simply have to take a photo of their decorative efforts and send it by email to the Culture Department culturamojacar@gmail.com or, by WhatsApp to 677959093.
All the town’s residents are invited to participate and all entries will be later published on the Council’s social networks. The three best images will receive prize vouchers, that may be redeemed in local businesses or restaurants.
For Raquel Belmonte, the local Culture Councillor, the most important thing of all is to not forget the joy of this special day and, to see Mojácar beautifully decorated even though this year the celebrations must be very different due to the current pandemic.
Mojácar Council hopes that residents will help the town to shine colourfully in all its glory, especially as all the traditional events that mark this day such as the release of balloons, the giant paella, as well as the music concerts and dance displays cannot take place.
However, Mojácar Council will still solemnly raise the Andalucían flag, although sadly without the usual presence of the Town Band or the Rociero group, “Embrujo Mojaquero” who always sing the regional anthem.
