Mojácar Council has put together a packed summer events programme that includes something for everyone to enjoy, although particular attention has been paid to make sure there’s plenty to keep the young ones fully entertained.
Things have already kicked off with last week´s revived Cuartillas fiesta and a theatrical event organized by Mojácar’s Red Cross. This weekend, on Friday 12th there will be an oriental themed parade at 9.30 p.m. from the Plaza del Fronton, which will wind its way through the little streets of the Old Town. The following day, on Saturday at 9.30 p.m. there will be some street theatre in the Plaza del Frontón, with a performance of the play “Estrella Fugaz.”
Music and dance then come to the fore on the Sunday at the Plaza Nueva at 10.30 p.m. with the pop, rock & roll group “Perros Beta” with “The Fat Lizard Band” getting everyone back on their feet again on Wednesday 17th at 10.30 p.m. on the same stage.
The popular Anabel Veloso returns this year with her flamenco spectacular at the Plaza Nueva on Friday 19th at 10 p.m. followed by a performance by students from Conchi López’s Garrucha Dance School on Friday 26th, at 10 p.m. at the same venue. Mojácar’s own Town Band will also have a chance to show off their skills in a concert at the Plaza del Parterre, on Wednesday the 31st at 9 p.m.
Events planned especially for the youngsters start with an opportunity to meet many of their best loved TV and movie stars at the Plaza Nueva on Mondays 15th and the 22nd from 7 p.m. with the added attraction of inflatables and fun games. The following Monday, on the 29th, some favourites such as Demolition Ball, bouncy castles and fun road safety circuits will be set up from 7 p.m. at the same spot.
Further things to keep them happy will be the musical “Villanos” on Thursday 18th at 9.30 p.m. and a puppet show “Indalo” on Saturday 20th, both starting at the Plaza Nueva at 9.30 p.m. The movie “Hotel Transilvania3” will then be screened at 10 p.m. on Sunday 21st at the Plaza del Frontón with the parade, “Unicorns” on Tuesday 23rd at 9.30 p.m. starting from the same venue.
Magic is in the air with a show by Cobra Magician on Sunday 28th at the Plaza Nueva at 10 p.m. and another event for all ages, “Circo en la Cuerda Floja” will take place on Tuesday 30th at the Plaza del Frontón at 10 p.m. with a show of amazing circus trapeze skills.
Of course, the event that has pulled in one of the biggest summer crowds is The Night of the Candles on July 25th, the most magical night in of the year when the light from 1000’s of candles illuminate Mojácar’s Old Town, with telescopes placed to view the stars and live music in the squares to make sure this evening is extra special.
