Crescendo International Choir performed its first spring concert Saturday, April 6 at Iglesia de Santa Maria Del Mar in La Zenia. About 1,100 euros was raised at this concert, between ticket sales and free-will donations given at the end of the concert.
Part of the money raised will go towards supporting the church building fund of The Parish of the Risen Christ in La Zenia, while some of the funds will go to Caritas, to be used for needy families in the parish. Caritas is the Catholic Church’s official organization for charity and social relief in Spain.
Among the music sung by the choir were such popular English tunes as Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen, Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, Thank you for the music by ABBA, and Let it Be by the Beatles as well as such well-known Spanish tunes Amapola, Besame mucho, Si tu me dices ‘ven,’ and El Vito.
The Parish of the Risen Christ Ecumenical Temple hosts services for people of the following faiths: Catholics, Romanian Orthodox, Russian Orthodox, Lutheran and Anglican. Part of the building is also used to host meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous, a drug-related support group as well as periodic community association meetings.
Using the church to reach out and serve the community is important to the Parish of the Risen Christ. “This is what Christianity is about, isn’t it?” asked church member Maggi Bray.
