San Fulgencio’s former Expat councillor, retired British policeman Jeff Wiszniewski, of the Independent Nationalities Party (PIPN), has pleaded guilty to prevarication and has accepted a sentence of a seven year disqualification from public office.
The events surrounding the charges relate to his involvement in the La Marina festivities in 2011 for which he was an advisor, which resulted in a loss to the municipal accounts of 9,582.34 euros, money that he has agreed to pay back to the town council.
The out of court settlement reached between the Wiszniewski and the Prosecutor’s Office suspended the trial and resulted in the withdrawal of the charge of fraud of which he was also accused and for which a sentence of two and a half years’ imprisonment was being sought.
Although the respondent had defended his innocence until the last minute prior to the trial, he finally accepted the penalty of disqualification rather than face a possible jail sentence.
The councillor is no longer involved in politics having resigned from his council post and his Presidency of the PIPN in 2015, when the investigation was first launched.
