Each day more than 130,000 vehicles passing through Alicante City causing gridlock on the roads. Particularly affected are the Gran Via and the Avenida de Denia in Alicante.
Alicante City is now seeking alternative routes to help ease the situation. Residents and workers are being encouraged to use the public transport and bike paths to navigate their way around the city. Still, however, large areas are still unable to cope with the volume of traffic which pass through the city at certain times of the day.
There is still 3km of work still to complete on the Via Parque and the town hall is also due to launch the €3 million “Alicante moves” project which will provide an app with real-time traffic information and 142 street cameras to make it easier to improve the flow of traffic through the city.
