The municipality of San Javier has announced plans to install noise barriers along the AP-7 highway as it passes by the Euroroda residential area. This initiative aims to mitigate traffic noise pollution affecting local residents. The project is estimated to cost approximately 416,576.82 euros.

Due to its tourist appeal, San Javier has experienced a notable population increase in recent years, leading to the development of multiple residential areas, including Euroroda. Located near exit 786 of the AP-7 motorway in the Murcia-Alicante direction, the close proximity of the highway to this residential zone has led to persistent noise pollution concerns.

To evaluate the extent of the issue, an ‘Environmental Acoustic Impact Study’ was conducted along the AP-7 highway section adjacent to Euroroda. The findings revealed that noise levels during the daytime period nearly reached the maximum limit set by current regulations, while nighttime levels exceeded legal thresholds.

To address these concerns, the San Javier City Council commissioned CETEC in April 2019 to design a ‘Preliminary Project for Acoustic Screens on the AP-7 Motorway at the Euroroda Development.’

The noise barriers will be installed near exit 786 of the AP-7 motorway in the Murcia-Alicante direction. This section of the highway, which serves as a crucial connection along the Mediterranean coast from the French border to Algeciras, sees an average daily traffic volume exceeding 30,000 vehicles, according to the Ministry of Public Works.

Following a thorough assessment, the Council concluded that installing acoustic screens was the most effective solution. The study confirmed that with the proposed noise barriers in place, daytime noise levels would remain below the maximum permitted value of 60 dBA, while nighttime levels would stay within the legal limit of 55 dBA.

The project marks a significant step towards improving the quality of life for Euroroda residents by reducing the impact of traffic noise in the area.
