The political group Cambiemos Orihuela has criticized the lack of transparency from the Orihuela City Council concerning the maintenance service for the coastal roads. They claim they only found out through the press that this service will now be managed by the Municipal Environmental Management Service of Orihuela.
Cambiemos Orihuela expressed frustration over learning about the situation through the media. The contract with the previous company expired last Monday, and by Tuesday, there were no workers assigned to road maintenance. The group points out that the contract’s expiration had been known since October, yet the City Council failed to take action. Now, they have only learned through the press that the service will be transferred to the municipal company.
Additionally, the group finds it striking that the City Council previously argued it could not take over the management of sports schools after the contract with Clequali expired in October. However, in this case, they have had no issue proceeding with the transition.
Leticia Pertegal, spokesperson for Cambiemos Orihuela and a board member of the municipal company, criticized the decision, stating: “It is a sign of disrespect and irresponsibility that political board members had to find out about this decision through the press. A prior council meeting should have been called to discuss such an important matter, rather than handling it secretly. The governing team’s attitude clearly shows they have no intention of informing or considering opposition members. Since they hold the majority, they simply do as they please without any regard for transparency.”
Cambiemos Orihuela is calling for an urgent meeting of the board of the Municipal Environmental Management Service of Orihuela to clarify the situation and provide the necessary explanations regarding this matter.
